MINUTES
Present: Pauline Aranas; William Beintema; Timothy Coggins; Deborah Mayo Jefferies; Marguerite Most; Rosalie Sanderson; Tom Steele. Absent: Camille Riley; Mary Mahoney. Guests: Joe Cross; Mary Lou Corbett; Anne Klinefelter.
I. Call to Order: The COSELL Board meeting was called to order at 2:00 p.m. by Chair Deborah Mayo Jefferies.
II. Minutes: The minutes of the last COSELL Board meetings were approved after a change was make in the URL for the COSELL home page. The new URL for the COSELL home page is www.law.unc.edu/cosell. The URL listed in the minutes was the temporary location for the home page and is the address for private page of a UNC Law Library employee.
III. Treasurer's Report: Bill Beintema reviewed the treasurer's report, which showed a balance of $3,418.78 as of 04/12/97. Bill also reported that the dues notices will be distributed shortly. Three new schools have joined COSELL recently.
IV. Old Business:

| B. | Statutes at Large CD-Rom/CIS COMPASS: Rosalie Sanderson reported that there is no longer a consortium price for this set. The price now is $1,900 for everyone for the complete set. This is lower than the old consortium pricing structure. The co ntact for the set is Randy Martinez, Potomac Publishers, 800-910-0281. Rosalie also reported that she had talked with Neil Maslansky, Electronic Products Marketing Coordinator for CIS, regarding CIS's COMPASS product. The Board decided to survey the sch ool representatives at the general business meeting to see how many schools would be interested in COMPASS. The consortium pricing for COMPASS is based on the number of schools that might participate in a special consortium offer. |
| C. | COSELL Home Page: Marguerite Most reported that the COSELL home page is operational. The Board discussed various types of information that might be useful on the home page, including statistics, links to research guides at law school libraries, a nd collection development policies. The roundtable leaders will discuss the home page and how to increase its usefulness to Southeastern law librarians. |
| D. | Yankee Book Peddler: Mary Lou Corbett reported the results of the survey on the COSELL Yankee Book Peddler discount program. She reported that COSELL libraries have saved more than $65,000 under the YBP consortium agreement. COSELL now needs to renew the agreement, but first must determine whether any changes should be made to the prior agreement. The Board decided to solicit views about the agreement, changes, etc., during the general business meeting. |
| E. | Award of Grants: Deborah Jefferies presented a new proposal for a COSELL grant from the UNC Law Library for $1,412 to develop a CD-Rom database containing an inventory of the 4th Circuit Records and Briefs located at the UNC Law Library. Copies o f the CD-Rom database will be provided to all COSELL libraries. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to award a grant to UNC. Deborah then reported that she had not received any new information regarding a previously submitted grant request from Re gent University School of Law. The Board decided not to reconsider the Regent University grant request. |
| A. | Election Report: Deborah Jefferies reported the results of the recent COSELL election. Rosalie Sanderson (University of Florida) was elected Chair, and Pauline Aranas (Vanderbilt) was elected Vice-Chair. Marguerite Most (North Carolina) and Herb Cihak (University of Kentucky) were elected members-at-large. Continuing members of the Board are Bill Beintema (Treasurer), Mary Mahoney (Secretary), Deborah Mayo Jefferies (Past Chair), and Timothy Coggins (Member-at-Large). |
| B. | Other: There were not other new business items. |
