COSELL's Technical Services Roundtable
SEAALL Annual Meeting
Thursday, April 11 2002
3:45 - 4:30 p.m.
Summary of Meeting
Minutes
Approximately 10 people attended the Technical Services Round Table meeting
on Thursday, April 11 from 3:45-5:00 p.m. Carol Avery Nicholson asked for
input and suggestions for "Mano a mano", a program at which she would speak
the following day. As a result, the group spent most of its time discussing
the topic of relations between technical services and public services
departments. Many in the group reported good relationships between the two
departments at their own libraries. Mutual respect and regular
communication were considered to be two essential factors.
A couple of the libraries represented at the roundtable meeting were in the
process of choosing a new integrated library system so the group also
briefly discussed the positive and negative aspects of the systems
available.
The group forwarded two program ideas to the COSELL Board:
(1) The competition between the online catalog and the home page (a topic to
be covered at AALL in Orlando but deemed important enough for a SEAALL
reprise).
(2) Dealing with GPO record tapeloads from Marcive (the group thought a
positive approach would include representation by Marcive and any libraries
which may have solved some of the problems inherent in the tapeload
process).
