Topics and Summaries
Approval Plans - brief discussion on number of libraries who were using them (4), workflow changes, good and bad results if any, effect on online system functions. YBP is the vendor for most of those using approval plans. No problems of note have been encountered.
Resources on-line – web products, web/print combination, pricing and contract problems, and effect on all departments The interaction of management people from all areas of libraries and systems to discuss new products/resources, web based in particular, and their effect on all areas was suggested for a meeting or workshop The result sought would be how to carry out the changes in products and communication needed with all areas working together. Other on-line resource concerns were archival needs and the time limited products. Lack of technology support was noted as a constant problem.
Electronic journals and journals on-line. Most attending indicated that they used the Hein-0n-line resource. Some have added the 856 links. Carol Nicholson reported that in the UNC libraries all have set up an e-journals page with complete forms and have added links under a note for the particular title and have added the 856 link for the others. The impact on the print collection was discussed. Responses to the question concerning licensing indicated that the libraries do the licensing of the product for the whole university.
Index to Legal Periodicals – web-based, how many use it and a brief discussion of use of the paper version.
Leadership in Technical Services,/the next generation. There was discussion about who are filling the various positions and who will take over these jobs when those who are in them retire? Discussion of requirements of the positions and who would be available was followed by discussion of job interaction and communication of technical services and public services.
